X-Rated Flashing

Why is it that every software upgrade these days incorporates the use of an “X” in the version naming (ie Mac OS X, Windows XP)? Macromedia seems to be following the trend with Flash MX, the hotly anticipated update to the its vector-based interactive animation platform.
Now shipping, this “must have” update sports such feature enhancements as “Optimized Application Server Integration” and a long overdue ability to “Develop and Playback Accessible Content” for readers with disabilities.

I have to wonder about any “improvements” to the interface, though. For me, Flash has always suffered from an infinite learning curve, as subtle changes to the way the interface works inevitably take place in every upgrade. Hopefully, though, Macromedia has made improvements to the overal “ease of use” in this update which will produce lasting effects in workflow.
