I think I agree with Kottke says, for the most part. The problem with being as open to other arguments as I am, Is I end up in this weird state of ambivalence about controversial issues… it’s a rare issue where each side doesn’t at least have a few good points to make.

Well, thank goodness that the military industrial complex created the internet (originally called “DARPANET”) so Jason can exercise his 1st amendment rights in front of the whole world.

Even if you take his postition at face value (& I don’t), that the US exports capitalism soley for the purpose of its own betterment I would think that recently free nations like Afghanistan, and other former Soviet states, would still prefer being neo-phyte capitalistic democracies, than what they were prior to encounters with the US.

As for Bush running this nation as a soul-less corporation, I must ask whether a soul-less corporation’s CEO would push for debt-relief for the developing nations, as Bush has done. I also guess that Bush’s $15 Billion AIDS initiative in Africa is another example of cold American business dealings.
