Moore on the Oscars

March 30th, 2003

Bowling for Columbine director and Oscar winner, Michael Moore, looks back at the widely criticized acceptance speech he half-belted during the televised ceremony last week.

“I think anybody voting for me for this award knew that they weren’t going to get a speech thanking agents, lawyers, lawyers of agents and agents of lawyers,” he noted at the press forum.

And while some may label it over the top, I wouldn’t expect anything less from this outspoken veteran of civil disobedience. Michael Moore believes that there is nothing ironic or hypocritical about expressing free speech in America. And if he’s right about anything, he’s right about that. As he points out, “You don’t leave your citizenship when you enter the doors of the Kodak theatre.”
