Thoughts on Memorial Day

We took a day trip to D.C. today to take care of some unfinished school business.

The entire time, nothing really made me think of Memorial Day like the sight of a few dozen bikers, obviously veterans of the Vietnam war, making their way through the beltway in the pouring rain. The importance of this day to them was apparent enough. They were on a procession to commemorate lives that were sacrificed—lives of people they had probably known.

In my mind, I thought about how this reality transends everything in past and current politics to reach an ending that is nothing more than human.

In my mind, all I could do was say, “Ride on.”
