Libraries In Time Of Need

May 27th, 2003

Big props out to Michael Moore who’s helping out American public libraries with the thing they need most—cash money.

Of course, we’re a little on the eager side to see this happen, as PA Governer Rendell has just put into action a whopping spending cut of nearly 50% for state funded libraries. No non-profit organization can survive such a hit and sustain itself without hurting significantly. Many libraries are bracing for impact. And to make matters worse, this inaprropriate use of what I’d like to call trickle down economics in reverse and up your ass is coming at a time when out of work people need library resources the most. If you have any doubt about this, visit your local library on a Saturday afternoon and see for yourself the crowds that are gathering. People are using our public facilities like never before, but Draco Rendell is oblivious.

If you’d like to make a difference and live in the state of PA, sign this petition or contact a local representative immediately. Or if you’d like to contribute directly to the American Library Association, you can do so here.
