You’re Darn Tootin’ and Other Juvenile Antics
July 15th, 2003In High School I used to write these one act plays with my friends. They were really lowbrow comedies with inside jokes about the teachers, the school culture, and the awfulness of the cafeteria food. One particular jab was taken at the expense of our infamously no-name brand vending machines. I think the bit involved a game show where the TV type host made an endorsement for a product we all unwillingly came to know that year. We (the writers of this comedy) wanted him to say something as stupid as the cheap-ass selection of food we were being given—a slogan which could completely embody lameness.
“Brought to you by Lance potato chips,” he said. “Darn good snacks.”
It’s still a pretty good punch line.
