Rally ‘Round the Flag

Harrisburg rally for John KerryAnd a Pocket Full of Camera Phones

Please don’t allow the lack of updates here to be any indication that last week’s rally for John Kerry was anything but a phenomenal success. Indeed, it was. And I have the pictures here to prove it.

There’s absolutely no doubt in my mind that he is the best man to put in the White House. I’m so sure of it, I’m going to put his bumper sticker on my car properly, with adhesive and all, instead of that temporary tape job I’ve got going on in the back of my window. If that’s not commitment, I don’t know what is.

But back to the rally.

Success should be measured in numbers. I’ve heard reports that the rally reached as high as 25,000 people. That’s not too shabby for Harrisburg. In fact, it’s the highest number I’ve heard at any Kerry rally so far.

The collective four hour wait also spoke volumes about the Democratic constituency’s level of commitment. There was a lot of anxiety, though, and a growing lack of patience started brewing up as reports spread of Kerry’s delay from an earlier Pennsylvania stop. The crowd in the grass might have gotten restless if it weren’t for the free bottled water passed around.

I had an unrealistic and sneaking suspicion that I might run into a local blogger among the supporters, partularly this guy or this guy. But having never met either of them in person, the chances were pretty slim of me recognizing either one. So fellas, if you were among the masses, sorry I didn’t come up and introduce myself. You’re easier to find on the Internet.

I did meet up with this guy, though, who I met at my first John Kerry event a couple of months ago. His positive reaction to my Howard Dean-like yell in the middle of one the earlier speaker’s dronings will sadly only encourage more embarrassing moments for my wife as I continue to display a lack of shame (and juvenile sense of humor) among large crowds.
