One of Those Exaggerations
I’d say George went down for the count in the first few minutes with the devastating left hook he delivered to his own face. I doubt even the lazy press in our country will have a hard time pointing this one out.
Bush from the last debate’s transcript:
Gosh, I just don’t think I ever said I’m not worried about Osama bin Laden. It’s kind of one of those exaggerations.
Of course we’re worried about Osama bin Laden. We’re on the hunt after Osama bin Laden. We’re using every asset at our disposal to get Osama bin Laden.
My opponent said this war is a matter of intelligence and law enforcement. No, this war is a matter of using every asset at our disposal to keep the American people protected.
Bush’s press transcript from the ides of March
So I don’t know where he is. Nor — you know, I just don’t spend that much time on him really, to be honest with you.
…
As I say, we hadn’t heard much from him. And I wouldn’t necessarily say he’s at the center of any command structure. And, you know, again, I don’t know where he is.
I’ll repeat what I said: I truly am not that concerned about him. I know he is on the run. I was concerned about him when he had taken over a country. I was concerned about the fact that he was basically running Afghanistan and calling the shots for the Taliban.
But, you know, once we set out the policy and started executing the plan, he became — we shoved him out more and more on the margins.
Kerry 3, Bush 0.
Update: Three’s a Charm
It’s also worth pointing out that this was the third time—the THIRD time!—that Kerry accused W of losing Osama bin Laden to outsourced Afghan warlords in Tora Broa, and the third time the president has had ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to say in his defense. Anyone who printed out this picture after 9/11 needs to seriously think about that.
